184712 2003-10-19 06:06:00 Some times when I copy scanned photos with their names to disk I get correctly "scanned photos with their names">>> but other times I get the photo as a number with jpg.." This is a pill so what am I doing differently? olldaddy76 (2539)
184713 2003-10-19 06:13:00 Not quite sure what you are saying here ...

Are you saying that a picture with a filename of (say) "nicepictureofmycat.jpg" becomes "12345678.jpg" when copied to a disk?

Or is it being converted to a short filename of "nicep~01.jpg"

If you can give a before and after real name scenario it would help.

184714 2003-10-19 08:53:00 Sorry I was not so clear but ""nicepictureofmycat.jpg" becomes "12345678.jpg" I am doing something different as it is disks copied about a year ago and what I did I do not now know,,,,,except I have lots of ancestry photos and now haven't a clue who they are !!!
...unfortunately due to a disastrous computer crash I lost all......but now I have XP and am reveling in the new found O S....inspite of misgivings by many on Press F 1...but originally I was using 98SE but I doubt if that could have been the answer......

184715 2003-10-19 10:15:00 No way of telling what you did so long ago, but the original names will be gone I fear.

Try right-clicking on one, and selecting "properties"
All extra info that exists on the file will be here, if there are no more clues, thats it.

I am pleased you are enjoying XP.
I too believe it to be very good, and would not willingly go back to any previous version. I do not share the views of those that claim 98 is better, and suggest that view is reflecting the older software they choose to use (some games most likely).
I have 4 PCs running it here.
