184505 2003-10-18 18:55:00 for some werid reason
if i'm connected using my external 56k modem connected to com1
and if i'm copying file through my 100 network PCI card
the whole computer lags and nearly freezes until the data transfer finish

but if i disconnect from the internet it unfreezes the computer as well

could there be some minor conflics between the devices??

184506 2003-10-19 01:07:00 It's unlikely that the NIC would use IRQ4 ... but check for that. :D As far as I know, the two devices should each have their own TCP/IP software stack, so they shouldn't interfere, but maybe the code in the appropriate DLLs isn't reentrant. :_| Graham L (2)
184507 2003-10-19 01:30:00 Probably a WinModem or Ham modem with poor driver choking up the CPU, along with a cheap processor dependent network card doing the same. whiskeytangofoxtrot (438)
184508 2003-10-19 02:30:00 if it's hogging the cpu due to crappy chips...
there isn't anything i can do about it is there??

184509 2003-10-19 02:37:00 You could try borrowing a better network card from someone, and if the problem goes away, then you know you need a better network card. agent (30)
184510 2003-10-19 02:39:00 Not a USB modem is it?

184512 2003-10-19 07:01:00 So it's an external modem?

Or is it a PCI card modem?
