184303 2003-10-18 00:29:00 Bl*&&^ viruses:
Been afflicted with two viruses: MSblaster and Torjan Download...I had a remote access error message the other day when logged onto a government secure site...I had to disable Zonealarm to be able to access the site...couldn't get it to work unless I dropped the security settings to nil and I did link out to a couple of commercial sites while the firewall was down.
After figuring out I had a virus, I found MSblaster and fixed that with Symantecs tool (the virus has disabled my Norton Antivirus updates)
and on re scanning (with latest updates enabled) Nortons found the trogan download bug.

My question is how did I get these two bugs: I run Zonealarm pro, Norton antivirus 2002 (including email protect) with latest updates and Ihug uses I spy.

Can they get in from websites if the firewall is down?

184304 2003-10-18 00:50:00 MSBlaster doesnt even need you to go to a website.. Just being online without a firewall is enough to become infected if you're running Win2K/XP

Having the latest Patches for Windows is now a MUST!

In its prime, I was getting attempts to infect my system once every 6 seconds by the blaster worm :-(

Luckily I run linux ;-)

184306 2003-10-18 02:21:00 Some of those trojans are rather sneaky. Over the past six months I have cleaned out at least three or four of them, including one this morning off my computer. The family all deny opening email attachments and although AVG didn't pick up anything coming in it did grab it during a scan. I still have no idea how it got on here but it will be one of the kids no doubt. :| Susan B (19)

Not all of them, only the very important ones or the Critical Updates
