185270 2003-10-20 22:49:00 would a pentium 4. 56k modem fast enough to do video conferencing?
I was wondering how slow it will be.has anybody tried it?

I know that u need at least a jet stream connection etc to ahve video conferencing. My friend would use windows xp and msn messenger to do the conferencing.

I wonder how fast 56k would be.Any idea how fast it would be?

185271 2003-10-21 06:29:00 there is lots of lagging in 56k. its its not really that bad if u set your video quality to low. Blue_face (1148)
185272 2003-11-01 09:27:00 It's pretty fast and decent on a 56k. Having a P4 and heaps of ram would make no difference. But you dont really need broadband either just for video conferencing. Spacemannz (808)

I wouldn't say that a P4 and lots of ram would make no difference, because it will make some (yeah I know, I'm being really picky tonight)... but I agree, webcam through dial-up works fine. :)

185274 2003-11-01 09:51:00 i just set up a web cam on a mates 1gig duron 256meg ram pc and on an EXCELLENT 56k modem it works ok....video a bit glitchy but different apps behave diffenently. unfortunatly we didn't have the mics going so i don't know yet how much difference it will make. tweak'e (174)
185275 2003-11-01 10:17:00 Ideally you need 192MB RAM on a P2 500 or AMD system equiv.

running apps make a big difference.

56K is alright for voice, but vid is going to look a lot like a slideshow.. it is acceptable though, I've gotten 2x fps on MSN before!
