| 185101 | 2003-10-20 08:57:00 | I am looking to purchase a laptop - one has an AMD Athlon2600+ (mobile Athlon XP) and the other has a Pentium 4 2.66GHz. All other aspects of the computer are the same (512mb etc). Apart from the price (the AMD being cheaper) which one would be preferable?? |

| 185102 | 2003-10-20 09:10:00 | Firstly, Welcome to PressF1 :-) Next, AFAIK the Athlon processor runs better on batteries than the P4 would (Unless one or the other is part of a Mobile family..). At that speed you're not likely to notice much difference in processing speeds, so Im gonna put in one vote for the Athlon. Anybody else care to comment? Cheers Chill. |

If its just a normal processor in it, it will generate a fair bit of heat. I would go with the athlon at this stage. They include PowerNow!technology so your processor isn't running at full speed when it doesn't need to be, so much quieter and not as hot. |

P4 even though i own and use my AMD at home i wish i did get that P4 personally i like the P4 chipsets if you are on a budget by all means go for AMD if you don't know much about PCs than i actually doesn't matter because you honestly won't notice much performance difference unless you were multi tasking with high CPU programs like running a Internet Explorer, MS Word, Virus Scanner and a Brute Force Program at the same time also if you dont know much about PCs get the extended warranty |

| 185107 | 2003-10-20 18:47:00 | As far as I am aware it is the normal desktop processor - Pentium 4 2.66GHz | suethomo (4694) | ||
| 185108 | 2003-10-20 21:01:00 | A normal desktop processor on a laptop will run very hot in the confined space it is in and should be avoided. Pay the extra and go for one the mobile processors. | Fire-and-Ice (3910) | ||
