| 185080 | 2003-10-20 08:18:00 | Hi, I am currently using an Athlon T-bird 1ghz on my Soltek SL-75KAV mobo, with 512 SD ram and running on a GF3 Ti500. I am interested in upgrading my CPU to an Athlon XP 1700+ and then overclock it to 1.67ghz, but i'm not sure if I would actually see a significant performance increase in terms of 3D gaming and general use. Is this upgrade worthwhile? Or is the Duron 1.6 ghz CPU a better option? Also, I was wondering if anyone has any experience on using a Athlon XP Cpu on this motherboard and anything I should know before I upgrade to the 1700+. Thanks in Advance. |

You'd get some more oomf out of a faster CPU fore sure especially if you go to 1.8-2.0 xp+ but its gaming that's going to put the most strain on your system so, upgrading your graphics card may get you further to where you want to go. BTW do you have a dedicated sound card? One way to go if your budget is tight at the mo, would be to get a new graphics card with a thought to getting a new mobo, cpu and ram down the track a bit.
