184856 2003-10-19 10:50:00 Have had mixed sucess gaming via LAN with 2 PC's.
Had success with Nascar4 & several of the Need for Speeds, but can't link V8 Supercars Race Driver, V8 Challange or Medal of Honor.
Both systems are high spec gamers running 98se with matched LAN's.
Using IPX/SPX Protocol.
Had TCP/IP & NetBEUI on the list as well but didn't seem to help, just slowed down bootup time & interfeared with the internet.
Trying to keep away from passwords & logons.
Is there a simple solution.

184857 2003-10-19 11:03:00 Specifying the IP address with TCP/IP will cut down boot times immensely!!

Im not sure if you really need NetBEUI

You'll find Passwords and Logins arent all that bad when your games are working over the LAN ;-)

184858 2003-10-19 23:52:00 Have since read through PF1 Faq on networking and reset my PCs accordingly. Certainly has improved the boot times, but hasn't changed anything else. Old Rocky (4742)
184859 2003-10-20 00:39:00 You will need to activate TC/IP , as modern games no longer use ipx/spx protocol I'm afraid.
You have turned off all firewalls, I suppose.

184860 2003-10-20 05:15:00 I don't have any firewalls, as I don't game online.
I needed IPS/XPS to run Nascar4 which is fairly recent, but as I understand it, after seting up using faq 42 I now have TC/IP set up as default & IPS/XPS available for games that require it.
Had another shot at Medal of Honor tonight which is TC/IP but had no joy. Will try some others later.

184861 2003-10-20 08:46:00 Are you specifying the other PC's IP addy or Computer Name?

Are both PC's on Static IP's or is one a DHCP Client?

184862 2003-10-20 09:20:00 Thats getting a bit techo for an old fart.
Network setup is exactly as recomended in PF1 Faq42 for 2 systems, except I have set primary network logon as "windows Logon" to avoid a logon promp at startup.
Have tried it as "Client for MS Network" but didn't seem to make any difference other than the logon prompt.
Have also done the basic testing as sugested in Faq42 & result were perfect.
As I stated in an earlier posting, networking is fine on some games but not on others.
The ones that work don't ask for any info.
The other ones do & when I provide the info, the host PC sets up the game but the guest can't join in.
All these games are within 2 years old.
