2003-10-20 02:19:00 | I agree with Terry Ritzz, but read the FAQs as suggested by Susan as I covered the whole gamut of monitor colour issues. One thing I didn't put in: contrary to popular belief, degaussing fixes nothing but screen discolouration. This is usually smudge-like patches on white screens, red on blue screens, yellow on red screens and blue on green screens. Note I said usually! Any variation is possible. Degaussing does not fix focus problems or increase the sharpness or clarity of your image. Playing with magnets can give any variety of colours including rainbow. Don't try it at home folks, sometimes the effects are irreversible, usually due to use of very powerful magnets that upset the physical characteristics of the metal screen that hides behing the faceplate. Saw some colour televisions once that had spent the night in a railway siding in the company of a diesel-electric loco. It took 10 minutes each and five times the normal degaussing field strength to get them back to normal. But I digress. :D Cheers Billy 8-{) :|

2003-10-20 06:45:00 | Sounds like dry joints to me . . . hairline heat fractures, most commonly I find, it is on the CRT (screen) base pins . That is were I usually look first . Otherwise the problem could lie in numerous areas . OldEric

2003-10-20 14:09:00 | Thankxx ppl for the info Yeah billy i will go thru the FAQ . And it seems there might be dry joint problem as terry and others pointed out . I think i will pop open the cover and have wee bit lok into it over the weekend . But i dont think i will take in for repairs . Did some hunting and some 17inches are quite cheap especially from Oemcomputers, its only 270 which is good i guess . Strangely i couldnt find very many cheap monitors listed in Trade&Exchange as i was looking for a second hand one incase the current one dies before Xmas but they seem to be listed 200+ range Guess will have to do bit more hunting in the mean time . Thankx ppl

Problems with them maybe? |

2003-10-20 21:28:00 | The main thing is to check that they are working properly ,most people are headed to LCD monitors to save space bargains are there to be grabbed a 15" is almost worthless in good condition these days so not worth fixing also dont open up letal charges can remain inside for days | kiwibeat (304) | |
2003-10-21 03:23:00 | > get a 19" or 21" if you can afford it your eyes will > appreciate it I agree, I use one and I would not return to a smaller size now. As regards secondhand, be careful. There are some bargains out there and there are some duds. They find their way into my workshop now and then. Often with intermittent faults. I would never buy secondhand unless I knew the circumstances of the sale. How do you know how many hours use that monitor has clocked up? Only an experienced eye can roughly assess that by looking internally. OldEric
