185522 2003-10-21 21:29:00 Hi people,

I have a DSE web cam (the one that came with the Use Your Head software....which was crap).......however I have been unable to find a suitable driver for XP..........was wondering if there is anybody that has one of these working properly under XP

The model number on the cam is SC612X-C.....In my search I have found a few people that say that they have the right driver however they never actually work........andy help would be appreciated :-)

185523 2003-10-22 02:25:00 You're probably out of luck. :D I bought one of them too when DSE had them on special at $29. It works on Win ME, but Linux doesn't know it. :-( I thought DSE might have been quitting them as non-XP, but I see they have more on the shelves at the "full" price. Graham L (2)
185524 2003-10-22 02:49:00 I have seen one going on XP but was unable to get the drivers off the guy.........at least you only paid $29....it cost me $70 mongrel (1788)

185526 2003-10-22 07:06:00 I have had one exactly the same running on one installation of XP, briefly.

That device has the distinction of being one of only 2 devices to manage to crash Windows XP to a blue screen.

Its not XP compliant, and probably cant be made so as far as I could find out.

Its still sold by several retailers though, just not for XP.

185527 2003-10-22 08:03:00 The win 2000 driver actually works for this camera under xp but it isn't exactly a straight forward install. You load the 2000 driver which then throws a belly ache because a certain file is missing ( I forget which since I did this a year ago). A web search failed to locate this file but on a hunch, lo and behold the file was located within the win 2k driver folder. Point xp towards that file and a couple of reboots later you have a working cam ( note cam, not software) Irfan view recognised it as a usb cam and was minimally functional, windows movie maker didn't reallty want to know it, but the big suprise was that messenger had no problems with it and the guy I installed for still uses it for web conferencing. It still remains a poor camera under anything less then bright daylight or arc lights but is better than nothing. the highlander (245)
185528 2003-10-23 03:26:00 I see that DSE are still selling it at $29. There is a line in the specs page: "This product is not Windows XP compatible". Graham L (2)
185529 2003-10-23 19:37:00 woohoo....spent and hour or so stuffing around with some drivers that I dragged off the internet and after a little bit of swearing the cam is working fine. Even did video conferrence with it yesterday afternoon :-)

So if there is anybody out there that wants to run one under XP flick me and email to todd.webster@team.xtra.co.nz and I will send you the files....

I have used the 2000 driver under XP and don't trust it due to the blue screens. After an e-mail corespondence with a nice fellow at use your head corporation it turns out that the camera is made by Dolphin and there is an XP driver. The problem is Dolphin don't have a download for it and refuse to offer any support via e-mail, instead choosing to send an autoreply saying your mail has been deleted due to too much spam originating for that domain. Alas is seems to do this from ANY domain! :)
