185515 2003-10-21 20:29:00 Hi Gang,
I am trying to set Mozilla for email for my neighbour who has just bought a Linux Terminator from Dick Smith. DSL set the machine up with an account for him with xtra - which is baaaad news as they 'don't support Linux'.
At the moment I have MSN and it's family of software on my machine and hope to use John's Linux disks to put Linux on mine but I want to get him going first.
We need to set up all the account data, so if anyone who has done this successfully is willing to set up a dialogue with me or point me to a source of instructions, I would appreciate it.
Thanks
Alan

Are you trying to setup an Xtra mail account in Mozilla.

185517 2003-10-22 04:42:00 Hi Jim B,
John has an existing ISP account which was set up by DSL when they came to set up his computer.

We have had nothing but trouble with it and as I said xtra doesn't want to know - however John wants to continue with xtra as it is partially workng.

He can send an email to me but cannot retrieve my reply.
The server settings are;
Server Type = POP Main Server
Server Name = pop3.xtra.co.nz
User Name = j-bellamy
Port = 25

Xtra Help said that ;
Incoming should be,
= pop.xtra.co.nz
port = 110

and Outgoing should be;
= smtp.xtra.co.nz
Port = 25
It looks as if the Web Browser is not working either/

The Dialer error message is 'Connection to server pop3.xtra.co.nz timed out' when trying to access the inward emails.

From the above we seem to have something wrong - can you suggest anything?
Regards
Alan

185518 2003-10-22 06:38:00 I suggest you remove that account and setup a new one.
Follow the instructions on the link here (www.ihug.co.nz)

It is for IHUG but everything is the same except for the server settings which should be-
Incoming: pop3.xtra.co.nz
Outgoing: smtp.xtra.co.nz

If you modem connection is not with Xtra you will not be able to connect to the Xtra pop server as they have this restricted unlike other ISP's

ISPs are going to have to stop using this line! Most ISPs use Linux for servers but are not willing to support it for their customers. Get tough and say things like "well if you will not support me, then I will find someone who does".

However usually there are no issues in setting up Linux to work on the internet - I have set up Linux PCs on IHUG, XTRA and Paradise.

185520 2003-10-22 19:22:00 Don't you have to add in DNS settings when setting up for a internet connection with Linux. I had to when setting up with Wave ISP. Once done it worked Sweet.

185521 2003-10-31 23:56:00 Thanks Jim and the others,
After the long week end I down loaded the "Here" from Jim's post and following it got "Bingo" - Emails now working OK - one point though I found out how important it is to shut-down and reboot with Linux - many thanks to you all .
Regards
Alan.
