185818 2003-10-22 20:22:00 Hi Team

Back in August I posted (pressf1.pcworld.co.nz) regarding spurious emails containing the single word "test".

Source was okacad@xtra.co.nz and I had also had some back in May from okacab@xtra.co.nz. Now the beast is back as okacae@xtra.co.nz and it seems that the alphabet is being steadily worked through as the last letter changes in alphabetical sequence.

It is harmless enough I suppose, but I am curious to know if the sender is broadcasting or if it is just a select few who enjoy his (or her ?:|) attentions.

Cheers

185822 2003-10-22 23:22:00 Can't you just make a rule saying block all mail starting with: ok***** and ending with domain xtra.co.nz. PoWa (203)
185823 2003-10-22 23:26:00 Have done, but it keeps changing every few days.

Besides, other people have legitimate xtra email addresses?

It's a curiosity more than anything else PoWa, but as Lo says, other people have legit addresses that start with ok and end in xtra so it is best left alone.

My main question is what is it testing? The most that could be obtained from it would be a receipt to show it was opened if the recipient hasn't disabled that facility and I guess that would give originator the associated email address though I'm not sure if receipts reveal that info. I have receipts disabled anyway so I'm not too bothered.

It is clearly an automated mass mailing suystem of some sort given that it produces all those different originator addresses.

185825 2003-10-23 00:42:00 Haven't seen it, now or in the past. I'm obviously not on the right mailing lists :_|. Maybe a few pointers, team, on how to attract a bit more attention, besides making supercilious posts that is ;)

Jeez Chris, whadkindaidjitdyathinkiam :O

Abuse@xtra.co.nz were the first on my list. I have notified them of every instance of this email. Problem is, apart from an auto response you never get to hear if they did anything.

What I can say though, is that after complaining about other emails, the offending stopped dead.
