| 185654 | 2003-10-22 06:16:00 | Hi, I'm Having Problems Upgrading to Windows XP Home Edition, I've Got Windows ME all ready installed which came preinstalled on my computer. When I Click on Install Windows Xp from the disc Menu, An error message comes up saying "The Language of this installation of windows differs from the one you are installing. The option to upgrade will not be available." What does this Mean? I Don't won't to do a clean because i won't be able to install the software that came with my computer without installing Windows Me First. Thanks for any help. |

| 185656 | 2003-10-22 07:37:00 | According to the XP Pro upgrade manual I have QUICK Install 1. Turn on your computer 2. Insert the windows XP CD into your computer's CD-ROM drive. 3. After your computer automatically launches the CD ,click "INSTALL WINDOWS XP". 4. When your asked to choose the type of installation you want, select "UPGRADE", & then click "NEXT". You can upgrade to windows XP if all of the following are true. 1. You're already using a previous version of windows that supports upgrading: 98 98SE NT 4.0 2000 XP home edition 2. You want to replace your previous operating system with Windows XP pro 3. YOU WANT TO KEEP YOUR EXISTING FILES & PERSONALIZED SETTINGS. If none -or only some are true for you,perform a new installation. For more info see "New Installation". I would say you need to boot from cd-rom rather than trying to perform upgrade from within windows. hope this helps. cheers Steve.
