| 186086 | 2003-10-24 02:20:00 | hi,new pc 2ghz xp + 40gb 256mb (ddr ?) XP pro soltek mobo. im getting 100% cpu peaks at regular intervals,bout 10seconds apart,from system idle process (while i do nothing with a few browsers open,but with only task manager selected. it did this once for a few hours when i first got it a week ago,and its just doing it now it was annoying cos while at 100% i cudnt type,it took 3seconds to appear. what is the cause? virus,trojan evil files? something odd with win xp pro ??? i was just going to take a screenshot of the task manager graph,but its stopped doing it for now! argh silly :P thanks |

| 186087 | 2003-10-24 03:13:00 | It could be Windows XP's Indexing Service that is supposed to run when the computer is idle. Turn the damn thing off, you don't need it. Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Services and Applications > Services, right click on Indexing Service > Properties then Disable under Startup Type. If that does not fix it let us know. :-) |

| 186095 | 2003-10-24 11:19:00 | Thanks ppl but its the same,and before i clicked 'disable' it said 'currently NOT on' ALSO if i drag my IE window continously,the cpu goes to 100% until i stop doing it also,(just to help things) i downloaded the program that shows graphs . everytime 100% cpu = it says 'msgs' MSN EVIL i knew it i hated it when msn 2 . 2 wudnt run anymore,evil microsoft . and trillian is blocked now,so im not sure what im gona do . ive now exited MSN messenger . i have left the pc for a few minutes with just this window sitting here . . . no more 100% peaks . . . . EVIL MSN :O (well windows messenger infact) i wonder why it was that . i think that i should just use linux! haha i still get 100% cpu when i drag IE window around . . thanks ppl |
