186030 2003-10-23 22:00:00 Hey,

Got an Acer TM290 laptop here that has had the region setting changed 5 times and is now locked to Region 1 :( which, of cause is not NZ!

I have tried the DVD Region-Free and AnyDVD programs but they don't seem to work with this DVD drive (Matshita UJ-811). With these programs running, when you try to play a DVD, PowerDVD says that the disk is damaged and won't play. Without these running PowerDVD says wrong region!

I see though that the drive still has 4 Vendor resets left. A vendor reset will give you 5 more goes with the region settings :) Does anybody know how to use these vendor resets?

Cheers

186033 2003-10-23 22:41:00 Try playing round with DVD Region-Free... You might need to manually specify the region.. manually start the app with PowerDVD XP... Im not sure, but have a play around because chances are you'll be able to get it to work! Chilling_Silently (228)
186034 2003-10-23 23:09:00 Cheers chill, but I have had a good play around with all the settings. CYaBro (73)
186035 2003-10-23 23:18:00 That's odd because the same thing happened for me (Only I was using 1.2.0) and specifying the region worked (Only needed on certain DVD's).
Which leads me to ask if it's just one DVD you're trying or many?

Im sorry, but I have no idea about the Vendor Reset's though :-( Ideally though you'd rather get something more long-term going correct? Once you've used those reset's, then what'll you do? You'd be back here again, right? ;-)

186036 2003-10-23 23:26:00 Yea, a long-term fix would be good, but In the mean time I'd rather have it set to Region 4 so I can at least watch NZ DVD's.

I'll see if I can get hold of an older version of DVD Region-Free and try it.
