| 185977 | 2003-10-23 16:24:00 | I have installed a new Maxtor hard disk drive 6E040LO. It seems much hotter then the old seagate. From specs I found that it consumes 450ma at 12v. Fromits body temperature it looks much more. Almost around 40celsius on thermometer. It must need few dosen wats to be hot like that. How to explain? Thanks. | Taly (4598) | ||
| 185978 | 2003-10-23 17:56:00 | I guess that isn't normal, but I've never taken the temperature of any hard disk (could never find a place to put the thermometer). I suppose you could check the official operating specs of the drive and get it replaced under warranty if it is outside them. robo. |

| 185979 | 2003-10-25 06:08:00 | Matrox temp is within specs. But one thing is strange. According to specs its power demand is 500ma at 5v or 12v. It makes about 6w. How such small power can create such temp in a devise of that size? | Taly (4598) | ||
| 185980 | 2003-10-25 06:14:00 | I read somewhere that Seagate drives can operate safely at a temp of around 45 degrees (mine usually sits around 32), so 40 degrees is about right I think. Mike. |
