2003-10-24 21:47:00 | Hi. I have a friend who's trying to hook up his laptop to the tv to play dvd's from his DVD rom. He can get the computer screen up on his tv however when he goes to play a dvd the screen just goes black. What are the scenarios that could be causing this? thanks

2003-10-24 23:35:00 | Its likely to do with the setup he has. Let start with assuming he's running from the TV-O connection on his Graphics card. Its a limitation in Windows, in that the video will only work if the display's are Mirrored. You're going to have to change the TV to mirror whats on your monitor, or change it so that the TV is the Default Display. Secondary Displays wont do video in Full-Screen.... Regardless of if its TV or VGA (There are ways to do it.. Linux is a start.. but some progs in Doze will let you at the expense of higher CPU usage). Hope this helps Chill.

2003-10-25 00:03:00 | Is there a dvd player for linux now? I thought to get linux to play the dvd you had to decrypt it to your hard drive and watch the vob files? Or have they brought some software out. | PoWa (203) | |

2003-10-25 10:15:00 | I find Ogle and the Ogle_GUI to be quite good for just playback. VideoLAN Client (VLC) is also a very cool app worth a look. Streams Media across the LAN (DVD's included) and worked great across my LAN with no noticable difference between PC's!

2003-10-26 01:45:00 | hey, this doesn't sound right I have a GeForce 4 agp card with video out I just set it to clone mode and can play fullscreen DVD's on my tv, maybe the tv going blackscreen when you try to play DVD's is caused by the resolution being too high for the tv this will depend on how old your tv is. Try setting the dvd software to change to a lower res eg 800x600
