| 186050 | 2003-10-23 23:51:00 | I run XP Home Edition - recently did a clean re-install (formatted drive, d/l ALL the updates, the works) and all is fine, except that every so often when I'm using the mouse (and w/o any apparent provocation) the screen goes wild, and windows or applications start opening at random. This goes on for about 6 seconds, and then the demon subsides. Doesn't affect the current app, but you have to find it again in a welter of other stuff. Have swept for viruses, but seems clean. I could re-install XP, but I'd like to get on with my life. Any ideas? |

| 186054 | 2003-10-24 02:34:00 | Thanks, guys. I've run Spybot, but I didn't think of going a-hunting for Trojans, so I will. Mouse is ok. | arfitty (2716) | ||
| 186055 | 2003-10-24 03:35:00 | >Mouse is ok. What did you do to check out the mouse? Did you swap your mouse for one with a different connection type, eg USB <-> PS/2? The symptoms you are getting are classic for a mouse problem. Since this is on a fresh install of the OS, try uninstalling and then reinstalling the mouse drivers. Loose connections and a dirty ball/roller (if not optical), are also things to check out. |
