1349590 2013-07-22 22:20:00 For some time now I've wished I could shorten up PSU cables and change the connector spacings. I know modders take the plugs off and sleeve the cables so I'm assuming there are plugs available and a crimp tool or even better those plugs that crimp directly onto the 4 wires at right angles.
I think being able to customise a PSU to match a case would make everything a lot tidier.

I've never been able to find a supplier though, jaycar and PB tech looked at me blankly when I tried to describe what I wanted. Has anyone done this or know where these can be sourced from? I'd want to be able to do the same thing with SATA power connectors as well. I suppose even the 24 pin main power connector would benefit from shortening a lot of times so make that all the onnectors.

It mystifies me why drive cages always have similar spacing and Power supply cables never come close to lining up with it so you always have to try and hide great loops of cable between drives.

MDPC is second to none.

If you just want cheap stuff though, I'm not sure...maybe trawl a few modding forums. bit-tech has a good one.

1349592 2013-07-22 22:53:00 Apologies also, seems I started a thread on this same topic last year dugimodo (138)
1349593 2013-07-22 23:02:00 Thanks Wratterus, that MDPC has exactly what I'm after, I was hoping for something local though. dugimodo (138)

Yeah - if you do happen to find somewhere in NZ with what you're after, I'd be keen to know too. Haven't found anyone local with decent gear like that.

1349596 2013-07-23 02:54:00 Well I'm getting closer, seems they are not called Molex officially, searching on ATX pins was a bit more productive and I can get them cheaply in NZ but I still want a crimp tool and the SATA connectors like MDPC sell. Nobody seems to have the plastic shells either which is weird when they are selling the pins. Also I've seen the 4 pin "ATX" connectors in a right angle plug that the cable passes through rather than feeding wires in and out of each plug to got to the next one and I'd like those style of connectors if I can find them. Might try E-bay if I'm going offshore to get stuff.

My goal is to make the power cabling in my PC look as tidy as the name brand purpose built ones do, I'm not too fussed with sleeving everything as it has no window and is not on display. This is just for airflow and to make the wiring easier/tidier to work with. Especially in my smaller itx machine where space is tight and excess cable a problem.

overclockers . co . nz
modster-pc . co . nz

Cable management does vary depending on case used though . . . .

Thanks but surprisingly neither of those seem to offer what I'm after.

As to the comment, of course - which is why I want to be able to customise a PSU to match the case it's in. I want to be able to cut off the power connectors and crimp on new ones where I want them so the cables are exactly right for the case. I'd think this was an obvious step for a professional build but the only thing I've been able to find in NZ so far is the crimp pins for the 4 way connectors. Wratterus's link has the perfect Crimp on SATA connectors en.mdpc-x.com and I may have to buy them from there but I was hoping for an NZ supplier and wanted the same thing for the 4 pin connectors as well.

I have bought Mini-Fit Jr connectors and terminals from RS or Element14.
