2013-01-29 23:22:00 | I am still not there yet............peach has not died, but im tossing up whether to get a tower (which i like) or a laptop. what is your preference and why? i dont need to take it anywhere, we have multiple laptops at work and they go nowhere...lol and i am not sure i like the practicalities of a laptop. i find the keyboards and screen far too close ...lol i do like a tower, but have a computer desk where i often kick it......or knock speakers off the foot area.......lol but i would like to get a new one before peach dies.......... as i cannot view things via usb any more, so photos, and external hard drive cannot be accessed this way. and i dont know if i want a tower made or a off the shelf one............ our off the shelf one was a lemon, and our made one is still going 8 or 9 years old now? suggestions ? comments? thanks :)

2013-01-29 23:48:00 | When I get asked that I give these suggestions: Ask yourself - Does it have to be portable, do you have to take it to other rooms, or outside the house to other places, Are you really tight for space and a desktop would be to big ( eg: small flat) if yes then laptop it is . If No -- Then desktops- They are generally cheaper than laptops, you can get them made to YOUR spec's with what ever hardware you want - not what some Pre-made Manufacture says you have to have . In the event of parts failing, and EVERY computer will at some stage fail - A desktop can fixed by installing new parts . With a laptop when they break, unless within their warranties, can be more expensive to repair . PC Cases these days can be smaller, the mini cases along with the mATX motherboards will do most things people want, and can be added to should the need arise or so desired . "Generally" speaking a desktop is also going to last longer over all than a Laptop -- by your own wording our made one is still going 8 or 9 years old now - 3 years for a laptop is very common life span . And before anyone starts jumping up and down saying they should last longer ask any repairer how many 3 - 4 year old laptops they get in that are failing . Should and do are two different things . :2cents:

2013-01-30 02:02:00 | I have both But mainly use tower for gaming purpose and also for watching movies, dramas etc . I prefer the tower since I can add and remove bits and pieces like graphics card. I mainly use my laptop When I'm travelling

2013-01-30 02:36:00 | I'd suggest a tower and i'd go the custom built route. The off the shelf ones are useless and you'll regret it, and they come preinstalled with a lot of crap you have to uninstall. | goodiesguy (15316) | |
2013-01-30 02:45:00 | If I am living in a small flat or apartment I would choose a laptop. Maybe with a external monitor and that would be my TV as well (with a tv tuner). And, because I don't play games or use anything too demanding. Editing photographs is ok on a laptop just for hobby and small quantities. Since I am not. Now I am using a 4+ year old PC with a 24" screen. I have tower, I would prefer a tower b/c you can dump it on the floor and keep the table cleaner. I wished I just went with a builtin graphics card. I don't really use any internet when I am out, not even tablets or cellphones. When I go overseas I use a cellphone just to keep in contact via Skype just b/c it is free and emergency calls (roaming) unless I get a local simcard. You can get the smaller cases. The upgradability etc should be fine for most users and most users probably ok with builtin graphics. Maybe a smaller heatsink-fan, otherwise cannot think of any. We've had mATX motherboards for a good few years before. If you want it off the floor and just easier to move around and clean could be a way. Just a bit more fussy to get into the case and change things around but you may not be doing that much.

2013-01-30 02:51:00 | You could split the difference and get an ITX mini PC. They don't have to compromise on power like they once did and there is a wide range of case styles available. A little more expensive than a tower, a lot more flexible than a laptop, and can be very small if you want (or surprisingly big in the case of the excellent bitfenix prodigy) | dugimodo (138) | |

One may not need the few card slot or drive bay expansions. |

2013-01-30 03:12:00 | Do they still make the old style Pizza box type boxes? Like the old ones from the 90's where the monitor sits on top of it? | goodiesguy (15316) | |
