| 1326164 | 2013-02-05 01:25:00 | Maurice Williamsons failed venture into computers, namely INSIS. For those with short memories, among other things, he cancelled our Life Time Drivers Licences on the pretext that a photo on the new licence would reduce the road toll, when in fact he hoped that the photo on the new licence would help solve crime by matching photos in the same way as finger prints and DNA. Despite being told he was dreaming, he pursued his dream and came up with a computer system that was virtually useless for anything. I remember it well, if I ever meet the weasel ****, I will demand a refund of the fee (if only I could remember how much it was  ) |

| 1326165 | 2013-02-05 01:38:00 | They are saying that 8,000 teachers were not paid since Novopay started Not last pay run ! Notice they do not say how many teachers have NOT been paid lately. Probably because they are all being paid. Give me strength.:( |

| 1326166 | 2013-02-05 07:06:00 | They keep saying 8,000 teachers have not been paid. (that is old news) So seeing as how the number is not growing then I assume that most teachers ARE being paid. So to me its all trivial queries like my extra 1 hour overtime was missed. Digby, listen up and pay attention. ;) There is $12 million is teachers pay in the wrong place somewhere in the system. Now that aint chaff. Then they recon it will take up to 2 years to fix! HERE (www.stuff.co.nz) Yeeeee gods have they never heard of an XL Spreadsheet. |

| 1326168 | 2013-02-05 08:06:00 | I was quite chuffed a number of years ago after having sold this business some software I said how I was thinking of doing a rewrite of it so asked this lass how she thought I could improve it and she said she didn't think I could. They have been using it for over ten years now and the only time I hear from them is after their PC or HD has died. I had one occasion where I was painting a roof in Masterton and got a call from him at 4pm. I dropped tools and was at his place in Gisborne by 10pm and problem solved by 9am the next morning. I would go to the ends of the earth for this guy as he has always treated me so well and always paid me more than I have ever asked. Now with broadband and Teamviewer I no longer have to do such a mad dash. I am amazed your software works on modern PCs without a re-write. Invercargill is full of hacked together solutions to make old software work on new hardware & operating systems, and they are far from elegant. |

The whole process was started back in 2005 by Trevor Mallard when he was Minister of Education. Interestingly, one of the education advisors to Mallard was Chris Hipkins who is now a Labour MP..and who has the cheek to blame the current government! The blame lies squarely with the Aussie business which took on the contract, overpromising and underperforming. |

| 1326171 | 2013-02-05 10:28:00 | I am a primary school teacher and so is my wife. We have 4 kids to clothe, house and feed. I'm extremely disappointed by some of the flippant, uninformed comment in this thread. I have no doubt that if these posters' pays were being affected to the degree mine and my colleagues have been they would be squealing their bums off. Both my wife and I have "suffered" several "hiccups" since Novopay has been rolled out. The amount of time, anxiety and effort that it takes to get anyone to take responsibility and fix it at the MoE/Novopay end is unbelieveable. An awful lot of the colleagues I work with have been affected as well. I simply don't believe that it's only 8000 employees that have been affected. Schools have been left to try and sort the mess and clean up errors that effect real people and their families. The education sector payroll is easily the most complicated in New Zealand due to a multiplicity of factors and employment situations. The previous system required replacing as it was heavily propped up by manual input and lengthy support. Talent2 were years overdue in delivering the new system and they and the MoE were under extreme pressure to roll out the new system. Pilots (limited as they were) mostly came back with very negative feedback and while the MoE/Novopay regarded the acknowledged faults at the time of launch as not being 'critical' it turns out that many of them were. The Government is effectively hostage to the messed up system as there's nothing to take it's place in the short-term and in the interim it's hard working teachers (and other support staff) who will continue to suffer. I don't know why we simply haven't walked off the job as it's a basic right to be paid correctly and on time especially when you work hard. And I/we are stuck with this hopeless situation for months, possibly years to come .... Bloody brilliant .... |

Invercargill is full of hacked together solutions to make old software work on new hardware & operating systems, and they are far from elegant. It was done with Delphi & the BDE not VB. I have often found programs done in VB an absolute dog to get running in an upgraded system. The BDE with Paradox took a few tricks to get working on Windows 7 but the program itself didn't need anything. |

Political point scoring and media exageration is doing nothing to sort out the teachers pay . I must admit that I can't understand just why it is all so hard . Perhaps if the schools were bulk funded and each handled their own pay (like most businesses) this problem would not exist . |
