1349110 2013-07-17 02:17:00 Is it a NAS or a media player? a NAS is just storage and works no differently with any format AFAIK. Or is it a NAS with media server functionality?
Just checking it's not the device at the receiving end that can't deal with WMA rather than the NAS.

In any case MP3 is the best choice for a universally playable collection - I have mine in WMA lossless on the Media PC and duplicated as a 192kbps MP3 collection for use in the car/ smartphone/ tablets etc. Best of both worlds.

You should convince them they need a media PC, no more format hassles :) for audio only a tiny itx atom based machine would be ample, good use for older PC hardware also. Mine is a USFF dell Optiplex I was given - 3Ghz core 2 duo and 2Gb of RAM running windows 8 with media centre and a HP media centre remote - makes for awesome dukebox, youtube, media player, etc.

1349112 2013-07-17 04:23:00 Yeah it's a D-Link thing that's DLNA certified etc. It's pretty cool actually.

The only reason this is a problem is he didn't want to have a PC running all the time to serve his media collection. Would have been easier. :p

1349113 2013-07-17 04:43:00 A real simple program but it works nicely for a straight conversion free-wma-to-mp3-converter (www.convertaudiofree.com)

Cant be any simpler, Load up the folder / tracks - Select Output Folder, under settings you can adjust the quality - hit Convert sit back and watch it do its thing :)

They also have lots of other converters for different formats

1349114 2013-07-17 04:46:00 Free is hard to top, but something else I like about dbpoweramp - it converts one file per thread so on my i7 it does 8 at a time, and each one pretty damn quick. Excellent when converting a few thousand tracks at a time. If I didn't own it already though I'd be checking out these free options myself. dugimodo (138)
