1325916 2013-01-31 02:23:00 FYI: current ethnic profile of the police force is on page 15
www.police.govt.nz

You'll see that given the current ratios, having 18 new students of Asian, Maori and Pacific backgrounds would indeed help more closely fit the profile of NZ's demographics going forward.

1325917 2013-01-31 02:23:00 And you have some evidence that the police force do not take the best? Don't tell me you're assuming that police officers who are non-european are not qualified? It can't be that they are selected by quota - because they aren't, so I'm not sure what you are saying.

I didnt mention qualified I said take the people with the best test results

So, what, you think the police force should give their tests, do their interviews, but rather than take 40, and pass any who complete the course successfully (I don't know how many of a year's intake pass), they should take 150 and pass only the best of those who complete the course?

The "regardless of race" you added to your post discussing the pilots testing vs the police suggests that you seem to think race is involved in the selection process. It isn't. Which was the point of my last post.

1325919 2013-01-31 02:37:00 And after said fitness and psych tests they take the best? Because said Maori, PI or Asian persons did better than the other applicants they were selected?

I don't see what your point is either, Prefect.

Could you perhaps state exactly what you think is happening? I can guess, but I'd love to hear you state it outright so that I can thoroughly debunk it. :)

1325922 2013-01-31 03:01:00 FWIW, police force recruiting isn't, and shouldn't be, merely about "test results": Police also need psychiatric evaluation and a fair degree of empathy and ability to work with people because they interact with the public constantly. But they take the best of those who meet the criteria, which are clearly delineated and, once more, with feeling, are not affected by the cultural, ethnic or religious background of the applicant.

Anyone who may wonder why the make-up of this class seems higher in diversity than the police force as a whole. I recommend you have a closer look at the document I posted before, which included the ethnicity. It describes the ways in which the police have evaluated the barriers to entry that might prevent applicants from diverse backgrounds, and attempted to address them.

They didnt take the best from who applied.

1325924 2013-01-31 03:33:00 So you're admitting you have no evidence that they don't take the best?

Let me spell this out carefully. They addressed barriers to entry for _applicants_.

That is:
a) They take the best from the applicants they get.
b) They tried to encourage a broader pool applicants.

If you want to get the best in NZ, you try to make your applicant pool as broad as possible. They recognised that it wasn't broad enough - they didn't feel they were getting the best chance at selecting the best applicants. So they fixed it.

There's no PC conspiracy here. It's common sense to have the largest pool you can draw from, as you note with your air force example.

I notice that you have at no point stated what you actually think is happening.

I have had dealings with them for them for crime and in tradgedy. I am glad their may have to be PC sometimes.
