We have 3 cats at least my wife does, we don't buy flea treatment for cats as we know a vet nurse and her advice was buy the large dog one and give 0.5ml in a syringe. One large dog vial cots a lot less then 3 cat ones. Vets won't recommend it though for obvious reasons

1325482 2013-01-30 06:27:00 I spent nearly $1600 dollars on my cat in specialist fees and investigations. Unfortunately no cause for her problem was found and the only humane thing to do was put her to sleep two weeks later. The specialist vet centre was nice and sent us a bereavement card for her. Maybe this was intended as a thank you note for the $1600.

1325485 2013-01-30 08:50:00 Fresh cat from the pound is only $40 or so. :)

Or Gareth Mogan will give you $5 if you put it down...

1325487 2013-01-30 09:28:00 As much as I love my cat, if she earns that sorta vet bill she will see my shovel. Not being cruel, just don't see how anyone can justify that money on a pet. hueybot3000 (3646)
1325488 2013-01-30 22:09:00 Too many people take on pet animals, but do not assume the responsibility of looking after them properly. They are a commitment, so if an owner cannot afford the normal annual vets fees and the cost of flea and worming treatments to help maintain their health, and minor treatments like cats getting abscesses after being in a fight, then they shouldn't take on the responsibility of ownership.

I agree bills can get very high for example when an animal has an ongoing problem requiring treatment, or has an accident, then difficult decisions do have to be made if the costs cannot be afforded.

1325489 2013-01-30 22:16:00 Agreed Terry, although sometimes people also haven't done research and don't know how much vets, immunisations, ongoing care, etc can cost. That's not an excuse - more a note that researching a purchase is always worthwhile.

My puppy cost me $1500 for a bowel obstruction in 1990, when he was 5 months old, and I was a student. It almost wiped out my savings, but I got 14 lovely years with him (and many other expenses!) which made that $1500 totally worthwhile, IMO.
