1325325 2013-01-28 03:27:00 Does anyone here do a bit of DIY plumbing? I turned down my hot water pressure because the cylinder was overflowing & now I have really crap pressure at my kitchen tap (Bathroom & laundry at opposite sides of the house both get good pressure).
I found a forum post & youtube video on the problem, but neither one of them helped me.

Any ideas on how I can fix the problem?

1325326 2013-01-28 04:05:00 Low pressure or mains pressure cylinder? If it's overflowing then I'd suspect your ballcock is damaged or there's a problem with the filling part of the system causing it to overflow, turning the pressure down and having low pressure in one tap to me is just a consequential problem. 1325327 2013-01-28 04:12:00 I assume the overflowing fault has only recently occurred ? Perhaps the pressure reducing valve is faulty, maybe it needs a new rubber disc or a new reducing valve.
It is not unusual to have a lower pressure on a distant tap, especially in older houses where the copper pipes have been sil-fossed together and if badly done the pipe bores can get nearly blocked with excess braze (like in the rats nest of pipework in our house where some pipe runs were made of lots of short pieces brazed together :) )

I think you hit the nail on the head there.
Assuming you have a mains pressure hot water cylinder and the overflowing is occuring on the roof it is more than likely the pressure reducing valve. Had the same thing a while ago with one tap being low on pressure.

1325331 2013-01-29 00:33:00 It is a low pressure cylinder. I don't know how long it has been overflowing, but probably a while because I could only tell it was overflowing when I got up on a ladder to clean out the spouting.
Looking at the pipes under my house, the shortest run from the hot water cylinder appears to be to the kitchen sink, then it goes north a few meters to the bathroom & south a fair way to the laundry. My hot water tap doesn't seem to turn as far as my cold water tap - could that be part of the problem?

1325332 2013-01-29 00:56:00 Of course it could be the problem. How far does the hot tap turn compared with the cold? PaulD (232)
1325333 2013-01-29 06:12:00 The hot tap does about half a turn & the cold water does 5 whole turns (I got very wet testing the max pressure on the cold water - it is a lot of pressure) Greven (91)
1325334 2013-01-29 07:06:00 Unless your hot tap is a ceramic type half a turn would hardly get the washer off the seat. You have to either free it up or replace it. Skill level about same as replacing tap washer. You may as well do that at same time. PaulD (232)
