186756 2003-10-26 05:09:00 Hi.

Over the last few days, my 56k dial up connection with paradise has been shocking.
I connect up - no probs, and alls fine for about 3-5min, then, it just stops, not more data recieved - only a bit sent, i try refreshing, but still no luck - i end up with all the windows dsisplaying "this page cannot be displayed errors".
I leave it for about 20min, refreshing - but no luck, so I have to reconect - and the cycle satrts again, i can't do anything on the net - it took me 7 reconects to type this up - and thst beofre posting (sorry if you end up with multiple posts)
So is anyone else on Paradise (or any other ISP) having simlar problems? or is it just me? and if it is my PC - wot could be coasuing it?

Thanks

186757 2003-10-26 07:24:00 Try all the usual suspects. Run antivirus and spyware programs. Scan & Defrag. Switch off firewall. Unload all unnecessary programs that load on start up. Try unplugging other phones that use the same line. Check resources (Control Panel /System/resources) the higher the better. Try that and get back with DETAILS of your system and setup if you don't have an improvement Rod ger (316)
186758 2003-10-26 07:43:00 I swapped from IHUG to Paradise at the start of the year - at times Paradise is like this - sooooo slow you might as well give up. I was asked to supply trace figures but there was no outcome. At his stage I stick with them as it is quite cheap. JohnD (509)

I tired full system scan with latest def's with Norton's and Adaware 6. I switched off firewall, done a scan/defrag, unplugedd other phones, even tried unistalling and reinstalling iinternet connection and modem.. no luk.

Also - you said check resources, how do i do that? theres nothing in system with resources.
I'm on Win XP pro, AMD 1800XP, 256mb RAM

186760 2003-10-26 08:41:00 Not totally familiar with XP but the basic principals apply. One thing with XP is it seems to have a lot of "processes" running in the background by default, a lot of which are not really necessary, especially with 256Mb.
One of the better sites to explain this is here (www.blkviper.com). Go through the site and see what stuff you don't need and see if that makes a difference. If not keep coming back.

186761 2003-10-26 08:45:00 Nope it's Paradise not your machine. I have the same thing here and I am connected through JetStart connection. At times it is okay but other times just plain pathetic. Took 6 refreshes just to get this page open. Some sites worse than others so I would say they are lacking in a bit of grunt somewhere to keep up with their users.

I e-mailed them asking what the problem was because I did not want to spend 30 minutes on the phone and did not even get a reply.

186762 2003-10-26 09:02:00 I'm with Paradise (Auckland) and its as fast as ever for me. I did have some slow mail a while ago but I think that happened all over. Rod ger (316)
186763 2003-10-26 21:31:00 Hey - let me know when you here back from them, I've just sent them an email also (after 30min's getting to there site)

It can't go on, i'll be chaning ISP's in the next few days if it doesn't come right.
Also - I see you're from hawera - that's where I'm from (i'm on Normanby exchange) so I wonder if its a area problem...

186765 2003-10-27 00:27:00 It's not you Fergie, we have the same problem here in Manurewa, Auckland sometimes.

I usually just give up, saying to myself that I am not going to switch to Xtra - I have a deep philosophical objection to Gatting's salary.
