Case: Antec sonata midi-tower
Motherboard: Intel D875PBZLK
CPU: P4 3.2ghz 800mhz FSB
RAM: 2x 256mb pc3200 ddr sdram
hd: seagate barracuda v 120GB SATA-150 7200rpm
gfx: ati radeon 9700 pro
sound: audigy 2 6.1 de
cd rom: btc f56e 52x cdrom
cd writer: btc 5224im 52x32x52x cd writer
monitor: viewsonic p90f
keyboard: microsoft black multimedia keyboard ps/2
mouse: logitech mx-310

Is this a good configuration? I want to use it for gaming, internet, image editing and designing websites.

186697 2003-10-26 04:54:00 Yea, but try to get 1!!! 512 stick of ram Faster I was told :) and for sound 5.1 is good and its not to daer to buy and srry for all spelling errors Gods-Hitman (1419)
186698 2003-10-26 04:56:00 Pretty nice, whats the cost?

Is it cheaper to get 1 512mb ram stick than 2 256mb sticks? Advantage with 1 stick, you keep a slot spare for future upgrades.

What about a dvd rom instead of cdrom? Or a dvd/cd-rw como drive - more space for upgrades. Does that soundblaster card come with the big addin that goes in the drivebay? Thats another drivebay gone if it does.

186699 2003-10-26 05:02:00 I don't want nor need a DVD drive, and I don't have room for 5.1 channel speakers at the moment. The mobo supports dual channel ddr so i am sticking with 2 256 bits of ram, and I will be installing windows 98SE (hey, I like it) on it so more than 512mb of ram is a no-no. I'm not sure if the sound card has the drive bay thing, but I don't really need it, I only want to get decent audio for games.
The total cost of the computer is $4420 inc gst.

186700 2003-10-26 05:10:00 Dual channel ram is faster then 1 stick, but your wasting all that good hardware by sticking win98 on it.

Imo BTC drives are rubbish, and yes i own one and i wish i didn't.

And why the 9700pro?...plenty of good priced 9800 pro's around.

186701 2003-10-26 05:15:00 What is wrong with BTC drives? Don't work well with safedisc, slow? Wilky (776)

Mmm yes, waste of $4420 using Win98 with a 3.2Ghz cpu. You can't even turn Hyper Threading on, but hey what the heck you'll be able to run Starcraft and Age of Empires 1 at 300fps!

186703 2003-10-26 06:25:00 Agree with PoWa, that BTC are badly made drives. Had more failures with them than any other brand. Apart from that, looks like a sweet machine.
Your question though is relative, it depends on what you want to do with it. Over the top for my mum with her browsing and e-mail. Great for myself which does a spot of gaming. So is this a status thing, or do you want to do something specific?

186704 2003-10-26 06:25:00 I might consider getting XP. MIGHT. It's way slower and I hate the interface. I know I will be putting a distro of linux on as well. Wilky (776)
186705 2003-10-26 06:26:00 And this will be all purpose, with a fair chunk of gaming. Wilky (776)
