186654 2003-10-26 04:32:00 For casual gaming the nforce2 with built in mx video will do you just fine,Frame rates will depend on the game and you wont be able to run the more grahicly heavy games at a high res or high detail. But they will still run.

Now,im confused because in your other thread you say u are going with an intel cpu,But the nforce chipset is AMD only........

186655 2003-10-26 05:39:00 Yes, I am now thnking with the AMD. Cost is a factor after I planned out the 800 mobo's, SATA HDDs, independent graphics.

I may consider to drop the cpu down and get a Ti card.

I got an AMD 2600 CPU and ti4200 card, specs under the "partitions" thread, and get 100 fps solid on Counterstrike. Made a hell of a difference to gameplay and clarity.

irrelevant. counterstrike is so horridly old and outdated that you can get 100fps solid with a duron and a gf2mx

get some unreal2/ut2k3 or battlefield 1942 benching going on for a FAR more relevant measure ;)

186658 2003-10-26 07:21:00 Hi again

My household is upgrading, I may shell in, so I may pay for the graphics card. How nice! :D

Ok, apart from the Ti series, which are the cards to look for?? I mean the full speed ones ie ... Ti series over MX. I am unfamiliar with the FX series...

Well my old beast struggled to get 50 fps! I still enjoy the game, some things get better with age know ... well, so my wife tells me ;)

I don't quite think she was referring to counterstrike though .... lol

186660 2003-10-26 08:04:00 From what ive read the fx cards are pretty bad performers,The fx5200 for instance gets out performed by the g4mx,and the fx5600 gets beaten by the g4ti4200,and even when you jump to their top of the line card the FX5900 Ultra it takes a performence hit when rendering dx9 effects. My opinion, for whatever its worth there is no way the latest range of nvidia cards are worth buying.

The best value card other then the g4ti is the ATI 9600pro.Not super expensive, fully dx9 compatible, and it stomps on the g4 series and most of the fx series of cards....
