186567 2003-10-25 22:30:00 Hello,

I've Just bought a new sound card for sourround sound, but after I installed the card in the PCI-Slot and rebooted by computer an error message appears. Saying "Cmdninst has caused an error in <unknown>"
and the computer stops responding. But When I Take the Sound card out my computer boots up and loads windows, with no errors appearing.

Thanks for any help.

186568 2003-10-25 22:59:00 Did you remove the drivers for your other sound card? I assume you had one installed before. What OS?

186569 2003-10-25 23:35:00 The sound card before, was build in, on the motherboard. I've got windows Me installed. How do i removed the other drivers?
The error message appears when it's detecting the sound card.

186570 2003-10-25 23:48:00 You may need to disable the on-board sound as well as remove the drivers.

The manual for the motherboard should tell you how. You can't have 2 sound cards, even though one is part of the chipset. If it doesn't disable when another card is inserted, you will get a conflict.

Under Control Panel - System - Device Manager - Hardware, select the on-board sound function and select uninstall and then disable this device.

But you may need to make a jumper change on the motherboard as well.

Normally under "Advanced Chipset Features" Normally set to Auto - alter by Page up/down keys. Make sure you save settings on exit.

186572 2003-10-26 06:14:00 I'm still having trouble with my spear PCI slots, I'm Wanting to put in a new sound card and a Tv Turner card in. But When I Put them in and boot up my computer an error message appears just after the windows start screen, saying " Cmdninst has caused an error in <Unknown>" And the computer stops responding. I'm Running Windows Me, and i've tryed installing one card at a time, but still the same problem. I tryed the cards on my familys computer and they install fine and work fine, so it's not the cards. When i take the cards out and boot up, windows boots up fine.
I'm not sure what to do next?

Any help well be grateful
cheers
