186478 2003-10-25 08:26:00 Hi,
ive got a gigabyte motherboard(GA-7VKML), XP pro, sound blaster live 5.1, lucent win modem, cdrom and cdrw.
I recently installed the soundblaster and now it seems that if i listen to a music cd while on the internet(or use the drive at all) i cant use the net, it will dial up to the net but you are unable to do anything, also when dialing up if listening to a MP3 it makes a crazy screching noise.
Any thoughts?
Thanks

I would guess that these devices are having problems with sharing an interrupt. Just how the CD-ROM gets involved its hard to say.

The winmodem relies on interrupts and CPU availability for every operation involved in pretending to be a modem. (Thats why they are cheap)
As such its totally dependent on other hardware and software playing fair.
Sometimes things don't go according to plan.

Try swapping the soundblaster card or the modem to another PCI slot. That may allocate a different IRQ.
