186483 2003-10-25 06:09:00 Hiya

I am doing an upgrade. The question is do which:

Intel 2.66 533mhz
Intel 2.6 800mhz
Intel 2.4 533
Intel 2.4 800

Fit together with a 800 motherboard and a SATA hard drive. 512 or 1024MB RAM dual channel. What is the general opinion with RAM shoud I get 400 or 500 DDR??

For casual work like MS Office and some games occasionally. I read tomshardware and it mentione the AMD is not struggling with the Intel 800 FSB. The 3ghz AMD is more like between an Intel 2.4 - 2.8. The number does not really represent what its performance really is.

186484 2003-10-25 06:53:00 The mobo I am considering are:

Asus P4P800S
Asus P4S800
DFI PS83-BL
Albatron PX865PE PRO

Would a 2.6ghz 800 be better than a 2.66 533?
How would one choose a RAM speed?

186485 2003-10-25 07:01:00 I'd go for either of the Asus boards - Asus over anything else LOL :)

yeah, the 2.6G 800 over the 2.66 533, if combined with an 800 board.

Dunno about the ram speed though.

For some strange reason his AMD tests are sometimes less then what others get,and he likes to missmatch products in order to make Intel look good. There was a huge falling out a couple years ago between himself and his main guy(by the name of Van,who after leaving went on to start Vanshardware.com,Now closed down due to Tom)because Tom refused his results and re-wrote them before publishing.

Mind you,it is true that the 3200 cpu from Amd does not match up in performence with the 3.2ghz p4.This is common knowledge and i dont think i ever recall anyone saying otherwise.

And according to AMD the 3200 number represents the performence of the cpu exactly, being that number is worked out by comparing it to benchmarks of other AMD cpu's.hence,a 3200 perform one third faster then a 2200.Irrelevent to the Mhz rating or Intels product.
