186726 2003-10-28 18:19:00 To answer everyones questions and comments: I have an internal ADSL modem which I will be installing in this machine. By the time I get this computer I will be in the "bang for my buck range." XP is more compatible than 2k, and I want to be able to use themexp. I'll look at an ASUS cd writer and CD-Rom. I have Nero, but an old version.

Also, I'm going to dual boot with mandrake linux. w00t.

186727 2003-10-28 18:38:00 And the monitor is actually pretty high end. It got an excellent review in PC world last..... november I think, in the 19inch CRT feature. I hate LCD screens. You cannot change the resolution, the colors arent as accurate, and you get trails, even with the new ones I can notice trailing. Wilky (776)
186728 2003-10-28 19:31:00 You mention you don't want a DVD drive, I would highly recommend you get one now as you are building a games machine and new games are starting to come out on DVD instead of CD, Metal gear Solid is one example. I am sure the likes of Doom 3 and Halflife 2 may go this way otherwise you'll end up with a game on 4cds. Pacifier (2821)

My mistake . . . I keep thinking of the cheap and nasty Viewsonics that used to get pumped out!

186730 2003-10-29 02:06:00 IMHO, even a DVD rom is better than a CD Rom. In terms of price, it's not much more (esp. when you're considering the system total is over $4000!), and it's a small degree of future proofing... Having said that, it's a minor upgrade issue if you want to add one later... Lizard (2409)
186731 2003-10-29 07:38:00 Good point, I probably should get a DVD drive.
Man, I am looking forward to this computer and being able to run lots of new games!

186733 2003-10-30 03:25:00 heh. i'll probably make another thread like this when it's time to buy, complete with the distributors. Wilky (776)
186734 2003-10-30 04:19:00 Lohsing i may be wrong but i always thought that u only needed an OS that supported Dual CPU's as its a hardware thing and not software e.g the BIOS detects dual cpu's on boot and so windows will treat the system as if it has dual cpu's Pete O'Neil (250)
