186735 2003-10-26 05:44:00 Hello,

I'm having trouble with my spear PCI slots, I'm Wanting to put in a new sound card and a Tv Turner card in. But When I Put them in and boot up my computer an error message appears just after the windows start screen, saying " Cmdninst has caused an error in <Unknown>" And the computer stops responding. I'm Running Windows Me, and i've tryed installing one card at a time, but still the same problem. I tryed the cards on my familys computer and they install fine and work fine, so it's not the cards. When i take the cards out and boot up, windows boots up fine.
I'm not sure what to do next?

Any help well be grateful
cheers

186736 2003-10-26 05:48:00 Did you try the suggestions given in your other thread (pressf1.pcworld.co.nz) on the same problem?

If you tried everything, it sometimes helps to post back on the same thread so that other people can see what has been tried/suggested but didn't help :)

186737 2003-10-26 06:19:00 Start in safe mode and check through device manager for "double ups" on devices. This is where they are listed more than once. LEAVE ALONE the System listings unless you know what you are doing. A mistake there could render a reload necessary. Any old devices will show up here in safe mode and can be deleted here.
Usually safe to delete the top of the listed double-ups. Restart back into safe mode and check once more, if all clear, then try installing your cards one by one.
