186562 2003-10-25 18:46:00 I have several cassette audio tapes that I wish to copy to CD.
I have a new computer with a CD writer and plenty of space and grunt and a stereo player with a 3.5mm outlet
Obviously I need a lead to go from the stereo to the computer's USB port.
Can you get such a lead from Dick Smith?
What are the procedures to making successful copies in simple terms.
I am sure that there is a brighter person than me that could explain the method. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Desmond

186563 2003-10-25 19:07:00 Hi Desmond, yes Dick Smith will have the cables you need. Just say what its for. You need a cable with stereo RCA plugs/3.55mm plug (a Y cable). If they dont have this you could go for stereo RCA cable, a 3.55mm cable and a small adpater in between.

You will also need some way of recording then editing. This has been covered here a few times with Vinyl copying. Do a search of this board to find a few posts discussing this if your not sure.

186565 2003-10-26 00:25:00 You may find this thread (pressf1.pcworld.co.nz) to be useful. There are others on the forum as well - do a search for record cassette. :-) Susan B (19)
186566 2003-10-26 21:29:00 Gidday,

Here is a quick rundown for you, run a stereo lead (any electronic store has them) connect to line out, on your stereo, to line in on computer.

then you will need software that records line in. either musicmatch or Media jukebox will do the trick for you.

You will need to edit each song, because the computer will record all sound, including the hiss on the tape. software called depopper will remove hiss, and you will need a music editor in enhance the songs. as
the quality of the recording, will be only as good as the quality of the tape.

there any amount of editors you can download, or media jukebox has one.

There usualy always a bit of fiddling to get a good result, but can be rewarding if you are happy to perservere.

Good luck,

Robby
