2003-10-25 23:06:00 | I found this ( . webhosters . co . nz/pipermail/nzwireless/2003-September/001129 . html" target="_blank">mailman . webhosters . co . nz) on another website . . . Hi yas, I'm one of the voices behind the Woosh Helpdesk . . only for about couple of months . Think I got the job not long after I joined this list . :) I will try answer some of the questions you guys have bought up here . > Does anyone have experience with PPPoE or have advice to share? Simply plug the ethernet cable into a nic and set up a PPPoE dialer on ur Win/Mac PC (Linux see below) and you're away . Steve Wright's email explained a bit more details . > Despite the initial outlay it does work out cheaper than Jetstart monthly . The wireless modem is $449 . 00 . If a booster antenna is required to get signal then that's $99 . 00 (excl gst I think :) - Woosh Home Everyday plan is $64 . 95 per month . Burstable 250Kbps and unlimited usage but subjected to a reasonable use clause . - Woosh Business 2GB is $109 . 00 + gst . Speed is up to 350Kbps . Then there are the Bus 5GB and 10GB, and also Enterprise plans up to 20GB (all prices include GST unless specified) Now the with the Everyday plan it is unlimited and Woosh will not charge for any usage you do . However, if someone constantly exceeds 10 times the average user MB then Woosh will speak with them about an alternative plan . The idea is the Home Everyday plan is design for the home and soho environments . > Apparently woosh is heavily shaped when it comes to p2p and any sort of file sharing they even shape standard ftp ports I don't know where you heard that from . I certainly haven't heard anything about that . I do know that the Woosh network works around tiers of service . I'm not clear yet of what the tiers are but once I know I will let ya guys know . > I'm most definately going to cancel my Paradise account and I'll > probably get Woosh before the end of the November . I will get it as soon as it comes up to Albany, which should be in the next month . Even minus my employee discount the Everyday plan is only like $4 . 95 more than my paradise jetstart and I will be getting speeds greater than 128kbps yay! > I would be interested in the ping speeds they offer for gaming . Lets just say latency is not *ideal* for gaming ATM . Does spike sometimes . But just to let ya guys know . . . 2 weeks ago when Woosh modems were on firmware 4 . 1 the ping times was around 150 - 300ms . Now with version 4 . 2 it's down to 80ms . So let's hope the IPW guys in UK can improve that! > That is 250kbps include some protocol overheads . Whereas jetstart is 128 > excluding (PPP/ATM) protocol overheads . That's interesting . . . didn't know that :) > Secondly, what PPPoE daemon (for Linux) is the best? We are telling people to try this one on Linux . www . roaringpenguin . com/pppoe/ > CDMA ? What standard is this ? Is it full code-division It's W-CDMA . . . yummy :) > Is this the correct coverage map? > . walkerwireless . co . nz/static/coverage . asp" target="_blank">www . walkerwireless . co . nz That's the old map before the launch 2 weeks ago . Since then about 10 new POP sites have been rolled out . Best way to check if u are in coverage is by entering your address in on the Woosh web site . ----- Original Message ----- From: "Greg Brackley" <lists-nzwireless@lucidsolutions . co . nz > To: <nzwireless@wireless . noodles . net . nz > Sent: Thursday, September 25, 2003 12:37 PM Subject: Re: [Nzwireless] Woosh CDMA w/ PPPoE > Is this the correct coverage map? > . walkerwireless . co . nz/static/coverage . asp" target="_blank">www . walkerwireless . co . nz > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: Steve Wright > To: nzwireless@wireless . noodles . net . nz > Sent: Thursday, September 25, 2003 10:35 AM > Subject: Re: [Nzwireless] Woosh CDMA w/ PPPoE > > is there a coverage map for this ? | 186506 | 2003-10-25 23:11:00 | Yeah I saw that too - the map they refer to is on the Walker Wireless (now Woosh) website - and it only covers the Auckland area (for coverage at the time it was produced) CHC Jan 2005... sheesh... If you do want it in yr town - they ask you to register your interest and the more people who demand it they quicker they will get it (provide them with a market of consumers and they will spend the money on meeting that demand).

2003-10-26 00:04:00 | 1: when is it coming to Rotorua? 2: why are they rolling out street by street not just city or suburb by suburb? 3: register interest, if i register 2000 times would that help?

2003-10-26 01:40:00 | If I enter in my address and details at the woosh site, it always causes a major error. Whats up with that? Even I could write a decent java script that isn't that buggy. Whats this 'reasonable use' clause? How much is reasonable use? I heard someone say around the 7Gb mark - thats useless! So no more P2P?
PoWa (203) | ||
2003-10-26 02:02:00 | The limit is 10 times the median usage. If you go over that then they will suggest a more suitable plan. At the moment the median is 700mb, so thats where you get 7gb from. If you want this to increase then tell people on woosh to use more traffic ;-) | segfault (655) | |
