| 186948 | 2003-10-27 01:31:00 | I am using Win 98SE on Pent 2 133 MHz and 2G 48 RAM. System became sluggish and I wont to clean the HDD completely and reinstall OS. Disk cleanup don't help. Just putting in CD ROM disk with Win 98 would not change things. Any ideas. Thanks. Taly. | Taly (4598) | ||

Caution, this will wipe everything from you HDD. make sure you have a boot/startup floppy disc with the cd drivers, ready for the re-installtion. Have a look at the FAQ (pressf1.pcworld.co.nz) which will explain better than I can. The page takes a while to load so, just hang in there. Cheers Murray P |

For the first, boot from your bootup floppy - if you don't have one, go to add/remove, windows set up, and make one. Then start comp with this and at the A:\> type FORMAT C:/S This will completely wipe your HD. Restart with boot disc this time with CD support. Put W98 in, type setup.exe and you're on the way. Providing your CD is not an upgrade but a OEM or full retail. And you have the product code. Bye |

| 186952 | 2003-10-27 04:17:00 | before you go doing a major reinstall, it may be far easier to actually fix the problem. firstly tho are you running a p1 133mhz or a p2 233 mhz ?? in either case with that amount of ram any minor system change, eg new program running at startup, can make you pc run slow. is it running slow all the time or just when you use certain programs. have you run an upto date antivirus and adware/spyware cleaner? |

| 186953 | 2003-10-27 05:32:00 | Hi Tweaky! It is Pentium 2 133MGz and 2G HDD. It takes more the 5 min to boot in and freezes often. Did not try the antivirus yet. Also there is not enough free memory on HDD, that disappeared somewhere. | Taly (4598) | ||
| 186954 | 2003-10-27 06:27:00 | It is a very marginal system for running much. Windows alone takes 90mb & word etc gobbles it up very quickly. Memory is also a bit light. Bye |
