I wish it was possible to get ALL Internet connected machines properly secured BEFORE they get put into the hands of the inexpert. It is getting a bigger and bigger problem. It literally takes hours to get all the appropriate software loaded, running properly and give some training in its maintenance. Not to mention Windows patching! And teenagers are the biggest threat because of the programs they run and web pages they frequent! Sometimes I despair! | linw (53) | ||

Unless you like being a parrot, that is . ;-) > I wish it was possible to get ALL Internet connected machines properly secured BEFORE they get put into the hands of the inexpert . Not to mention Windows patching! Ah, but some people would then be out of a job, wouldn't they? ;-) :-) > And teenagers are the biggest threat because of the programs they run and web pages they frequent! Well they have to learn and getting themselves into a big mess soon teaches them, especially when there is a big delay before the computer gets fixed again . Or they quickly learn how to fix it up themselves . :D |

| 187034 | 2003-11-05 20:35:00 | Nobody seems to have yet mentioned msconfig? Try this: Click Start Run type in: msconfig Click on the Autorun tab over the right. List what's in there (For both OS's) and post back here. Somebody will then tell you what you can be rid of and what should be kept. I would also suggest you go through Add/Remove programs and remove anything in there you can see you dont really need or use. Then run Spybot Search & Destroy to clean up any pieces left behind :-) You might also be interested in Tweak XP 3 for Windows XP. www.downloadatoz.com If there's a random space in there you'll need to remove it yourself and copy/paste the URL. Try Tweak98 too while you're at it :-) Hope this helps Chill. |
