186896 2003-10-26 22:23:00 Hiya,

I've got a CD which I want to make a backup of. The unusual (if It's really) thing is that the capacity of the CD itself is 800mb. I've tried numerous places to search for a 800mb CD, but the majority it seems though, is that 700mb is the norm.

The other alternative, was maybe I could try a blank DVD disc might do the trick with my CDRW???

Can anyone suggest a good place that will allow me to purchase one nationwide.

Thanks

186897 2003-10-26 22:39:00 a blank DVD disc will not work in your cd-writer.To us a Blank DVD disc you need a DVD-writer. BootyLicious (526)
186898 2003-10-26 22:50:00 You can overburn with some software, to 800 MB.

Only if the CD burner supports the mode.

It seldom works with data, but may with audio .cda files, providing the media will cope and the burner is capable.

Its not a standard CD format.

186899 2003-10-27 00:10:00 Try Dick Smith -- it is possible to get them there I believe.
I doubt that overburning a 700MB CDR would work -- frommemory you can only overburn by 20-30MB (not a 100!) - but I could be wrong!

The other thing you could do is:
1: Copy the contents of the CD to your hard drive and copy back the files to 2 different 700MB CDRs if it's possible for you to split the CD's contents across 2 seperate CDRs. (IE: it's not a game or application disc).

186901 2003-10-27 01:44:00 Hiya All,

Thanks for your suggestions....

Meanwhile I had already attempted these steps earlier, and yes, Chemical Ali, I knew it wasn't worth the effort of overburning a 700mb cd especially with an extra 100mb. It doesn't work.

Places I have already tried: DickSmith, Harvey Norman, Selectrix, Warehouse Stationery Computer City, Bond n Bond, and your usual computer stores.

Can anyone explain why there is limited no of supplies of 800mb cds available? Am somewhat curious?

Cheers

186903 2003-10-27 02:30:00 WTF, they show 800Mb version as out of stock. There must be a demand for them or a lack of production.
Another place to try is here (www.picosys.co.nz)
