2003-10-29 02:38:00 | Hi ya - well I have bought an upgrade disk from the computer shop for our antivirus. It is a 2003 version. At the moment we have 2002 and was wondering do I need to completely uninstall this version or just disable before I install this new one???? Thanks Bug :)

2003-10-30 03:43:00 | to check for it to have worked.. in start, programs, nortons antivirus..click on nortons antivirus and when the window comes up...it should obviously say nortons antivirus 2003 if thats what you upgraded to... and with registration, i guess you do have to go thru with that to get your liveupdates enabled meaning ur allowed to download updates, but when i installed 2002 i skipped registration, you could try skipping and if it affects your program then come back, otherwise enjoy being protected :)

2003-10-30 03:52:00 | OK - I skipped registration and its done its scan and now its come up with virus definations need attention - i have clicked on that and it tells me Liveupdate is downloading updates for the following etc etc so I take it I dont need to register after all. Thanks for your help on this one Chris. Bug =)

2003-10-30 04:51:00 | i get the feeling from LB things are still a little confused on the firewall front, and if someone can enlighten us on the pros and cons of this or other products may help her / us i dont think it is as cut and dried as it should be, and she may still be interested in using other prog's as a test run, to find out what she likes best. i have used zonealarm and its good, but have not used nortons at all. so am not much help to her. but LB finds it a bit scary when talking about configuring these firewalls to your requirements. so if someone could walk her through a bit im sure we would all apprciate the help. and advice we could use also later. its a case of one size does not fit all..... and the less to do on some makes it easier for noobs like us... thanxs apologies LB for butting into thread. but im interested as well. as have none running apart from xp since format, and am unsure how much i need to add before i do some more damage to this machine... :D beetle

Hi Bug I'd watch that if I were you. Nortons can appearing to download and update on unregistered products/expired subscriptions but doesn't actually download the latest defs. I have experienced this with NAV 2002 but I can't speak for 2003 as my copy is registered. Just to be on the safe side I'd open the NAV console and check the date on your defs, and also look at your subscription expiry date. If they are both OK you are probably fine but keep an eye on it because there may be a grace period for registration after which the whole shebang grinds to a halt. There is no valid reason not to register anyway. What could the downside be? You don't invite spam or anything else nasty so it is just as easy to do it as not. The only people who need to worry are those trying to register a product that is already registered to somebody else. If that is the case, and you don't register, you can usually download updates until the original installation license expires. That will be something less than 12 months. However, IMHO it won't be long before smart registration systems will pick up the duplication and put a stop to multiple use. Much like XPs product activation or whatever they call it, I'm a W98 & W2K guy myself and don't have those worries. Cheers Billy 8-{) |
