187276 2003-10-28 09:17:00 I have an 80GB external hard drive (USB2 connected type) which I want to format as one large FAT32 partition from a Win2k computer.

I want to use FAT32 to allow compatibility with Win98, etc, machines in the future if necessary, however at present I only have access to Win2K and WinXP computers so can therefore only format FAT32 partitions under 32GB.

I could boot from a Win98 floppy disk but then I wouldn’t have all the necessary drivers installed to access the USB connected hard drive.

Does anyone know of any shareware/freeware for formatting larger drives as FAT32 under Win2k? Or how to make a Win98 boot disk with external USB hard drive support?

Any other suggestions gratefully accepted?

Thanks,
Peter

187277 2003-10-28 09:27:00 Now I downloaded a updated version of FDisk and saved it onto my bootdisk overwriting the old Fdisk file. This does Fat32 partitions up to 62GB ish.

Downloaded from the MS site I think.

187278 2003-10-28 09:28:00 why keep it as 1 partition?? split it into 3-4 partitions would make it far easier to organise files. tweak'e (174)
187279 2003-10-28 11:38:00 I believe that you will find Partition Magic software helpful, I am using it and it does help me a lot, i can split up my HDD to different partition with anysize i want. You could find it here (www.filesearching.com). Kevinguyen (4371)
