187493 2003-10-29 05:35:00 Hi,
My daughter is going up to Auckland for the Big Day Out.
Sorting out the accommodation is not easy. We have got maps & accommodation guides & had a quick on the Internet but want to know of a good, safe cheap place to stay. It must be within easy access to Ericsson Stadium & the Airport & maybe the City Centre.
I hope that the bus system is better than it used to be.

Thanks
Pauline.

187494 2003-10-29 06:44:00 sorry i cant help im trying to do the same. Yet i know nothing in auckland and i better book my accommodation this week before is all booked out.

What i can tell you is that The Big Day Out is running a bus.

Heres what the site says...

Stagecoach will run a continuous service departing Real Groovy Records and The Downtown Shopping Centre on Lower Albert St from 9.15am through 2.00pm. A return service commences from 9.30pm from Gate B. This continuous service runs until everyone has gone home and runs to The St James Theatre. A further service to the North Shore runs from the Downtown Bus Terminal.

Cost $5.00 each way - tickets available on the day from the fat controller.

also some details about the train...

This year the train run on the southern, eastern and western lines. The Southern service will start from Papkura and run directly to Penrose Station. The Western service starts at Waitakere Station and runs via Newmarket to Penrose Station. The Eastern service will cover Glen Innes, Meadowbank, Panmure and Orakei.

A return service will commence at 9.30pm and run both South and West with the last train departing Penrose at 12.30am.

Costs $7.00 each way and a return ticket is available from December 15.

For further information on both train and bus services ring Rideline 366 6400.

Hope this helps a little

187495 2003-10-29 06:59:00 Try CyberChuck's house (just had to say that) ;)

Having said that, however, my sister's going, I'm hoping to, and I hoped I've coerced CC to as well... gotta get more friends to go though :D

So if you're trusting, I'd suggest a well known PF1ers house. Else try a [youth] hostel.

187497 2003-10-29 21:33:00 About 20 -30 minutes walk.................

Rockfield Motel in Rockfield Rd is a little closer.

If it were me I'd get a backpackers in downtown and catch the bus.

187500 2003-10-30 00:16:00 Last year it wasn't exactly outside Real Groovy... a little further up, but the queue went down to Real Groovy. agent (30)
187501 2003-10-30 02:17:00 Jeez....How old is your daughter? For some reason I get the impression she's quite young? I was impressed at the sheer numbers attending, and the number of drunk/drugged/attention seeking idiots there.
The music was pretty good though....
I'm sure there's no shortage of places to stay in town

187502 2003-10-30 07:39:00 Hi Curious George,
No she's not that young, she's not been out of Ch ch on her own before.
She has friends going up to the Big Day but they are all leaving on different days, flights & when you are going to a strange city it's not so easy to arrange to meet up when you dont know places landmarks etc. They will no doubt make lots of use of their cell phones.
Pauline.
