I have scanned for duplicate files. So far (2 hours later) 3 files have been found. They are C:\10.sys. Size 222,390
C:\temp\WINDD\COMMAND\EBD\10.SYS
C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\EBD\10.SYS Should I delete them or not them?
Easycleaner says it still has 957 hours left to completion. is this normal?

187483 2003-10-29 04:19:00 NO, do not delete IO.SYS, else your OS will go bung.

In fact the delete duplicate file utility is a menace.

Many programs put their own dll system files in their own folder. There may be Windows OS dll system files with the same name but maybe a different version.
It can be fatal to willy nilly delete identicle files.

187484 2003-10-29 04:22:00 Oh, forgot. I have no idea why it is taking so long to scan. Should be just a few minutes at the most. Terry Porritt (14)
187485 2003-10-29 04:24:00 Only 957 hours to go? Time for a cuppa. :D

187486 2003-10-29 05:02:00 Phew that was close! Got such a fright that I unistalled Easycleaner! Thanks for the help. Think I will just stick to Ad-aware, Norton System Works and Spysweeper as my computer maintenance tools.:) summertime (2568)
187487 2003-10-29 05:54:00 Well, Easycleaner is a very good utility for removing junk or unecessary files, and for cleaning the registry, just dont use the duplicate file removal tool. There is a warning about being careful....quote:

"Be extreme careful, this is not recommended for beginners"

The duplicate file thing is ok if you know exactly which duplicates can be removed. Why it took so long I dont know, perhaps your system needs a good clean out? :)
