187266 2003-10-28 07:29:00 Usually how many speaker outputs are there??

I have 5 speakers with 2 wires each - red and black.
I also have a bass unit - not sure about he wires of these yet thou..

I believe the ones I seen are centre, back and front. How do u connect two speakers (each having 2 wires each) into a plugin socket plug?? Are there adaptors avail?? Like front left/right into one socket, centre into one, back left/right into one socket again.. How do I convert 2x two wires (red/black) into one socket...

I have yet to get the sounds and the mobo...

187267 2003-10-28 09:10:00 When i enable the 6 channel sound on my mobo all three audio plugs become outputs. This wasn't detailed or even mentioned in the mobo manual and i only realised it when my mic stopped working,i plugged a speaker plug in their and wadda ya know, all six speakers sprang into life....

Dodgy way of doing it imo.

Are these wires to the speakers themselves, or to an amplifier unit?

Generally you can't drive speakers directly from a sound card, the speakers need to be driven from an amplifier (which may or may not be integral to the speakers, but will have a separate power source)

Its just that your description of "Red and Black wires" suggests they are not sheilded cables you would need to use, taking sound from the "line output" levels of a sound card to the inputs of an audio amplifier.

187269 2003-10-28 12:17:00 Godfather's right... speakers plug into Dolby Digital capable amp... amp receives digital signal from your soundcard, amplifies and sends the correct signals to each speaker.

187270 2003-10-29 03:42:00 ya, they are designed for an amp. ok that means I cannot avoid the amp and just get the speakers...

187273 2003-10-29 07:06:00 Our DVD deck has woofer output and a audio left and right output.

Can normal speakers be connected to this machine?? 2.1 setup. The speakers has wires and the DVD deck accepts sockets, is there a adaptors avail??

187274 2003-10-29 07:08:00 The DVD does have digital out - two plugs coaxial and another ... the manual says both are used to connect to the receiver. We don't have a receiver :( nomad (3693)
187275 2003-10-29 07:08:00 Yes, you can connect your speakers to your DVD player.
