187804 2003-10-30 01:38:00 now dont jump down my throat please,

every now and again i need to edit and fiddle around with photos and enlarge etc, change heads and such (LOL) and i just cant stand paint prog i have is there any thing else out there free, and simple?

i think i asked this before but never got one due to ongoing problems with the puter.

i would like to be able to edit all pics i have / photos and also things i scan, or net find.....

what do you recomend, or use, free is easiest at moment for me, but will consider other ideas.

i dont want it for business stuff (to make money) just odds and ends i need or want to do for work or school, home stuff.

187806 2003-10-30 01:44:00 Photoshop Elements is my fav low-end program. Ascent sells it for $189 incl GST (www.ascent.co.nz). As a Photoshop user I'm amazed how much of that $1400 program they managed to stick in Elements for $190. I know $190 aint free but its a good price for what you get. Often bundled with scanners and digicams too. Biggles (121)
187807 2003-10-30 01:54:00 LOL cut to the chase eh ?

tis ok better than it was, but every now and again it throws a fit and the prog shuts but that may be due to me being in a hurry.......LOL

fairly quick start ups, about 1min?
doesnt hang or anything yet, mouse freezes occasionally, but still feel its trying to run some thing else - prog wise but on the whole tis good.
better than it was, and havent heard anything from other tech or farmers either so it seems it wont be going any where.......

been playing a few games on it and just general surfing and what not emails etc and all ok,
its just the editing prog thats causing some hassles and operator trouble.... :p

the mouse needs replacing and that may be the biggest hassle i have, but finding time and knowing what i should get is two different things.
im indebted to you for your help M and if i have any more probs i will call you soon as, been meaning to email but life's been a bit busy.....

thanxs

187808 2003-10-30 01:57:00 What's bundled with your scanner software beet?

You can do quite a bit with a freebe like Irfanview (http://www.irfanview.com/) but IMO you'll need to download all the plugins as well. I agree with Bruce, however. I've just started using Photoshop Elements that came bundled with my Canon EOS camera and it's easily the best I've used, in my limited experience.

187809 2003-10-30 02:07:00 i have a Benq scanner and it has mira scan or some such thing on it, and i have not succesfully had time to do anything on it or time to fiddle enough to say how to use it properly..... and also forgot it was there.....:8}
the hands on approach is usually my down fall in these times,
and i am weary as to what i use or download at moment, due to past experiences.....
but am keeping my options open at present, and experience from others is important sometimes for sussing these things out....
thanxs for all input so far.

187810 2003-10-30 02:30:00 Was in Whitcoulls today and saw Robo's new Digital Camera book. Looks pretty snazzy too. :-)

Anyway, I noticed that Robo gave PictureIt! a few mentions and I presume that it is Microsoft's product. Looking at a couple of sites here (www.pcmag.com) and here (howto.lycos.com) it sounds just the ticket for you. Don't know if you can change heads with it or not though. LOL

Unfortunately, it isn't free. :-(

You can with Elements thanks to its selection tools and layers, as this Chris Keall-Rob Clarke hybrid creature (deadman.co.nz) demonstrates ....
