187605 2003-10-29 09:12:00 Hi there

I am trying to install a game called LEGO Alpha Team for my son on my PC which has Windows XP (with SP1) installed.

It is telling me that it cannot find a "Miscrosoft Direct3D compatible display driver" and so will not play (it has installed ok though).

I have got a IBM 6547 monitor with a S3 Graphics Inc. Trio3D display adapter.

Can anyone suggest how I can get this game going?

Thanks

187606 2003-10-29 09:21:00 if its the card i think it is, those vid cards are old and crappy, i'm a little suprised to see XP on such pc. you can try checking out new vid drivers but with such a slow card any half decent game is not going run very well.

have you got any more details on pc? sometimes s3 onboard graphics can go by a simeler name to the old trio3d series.

187607 2003-10-29 09:22:00 Hi Jeff,

The built in windows xp drivers for your s3 adapter may not include direct 3d support. I suggest you try visiting this page before you begin:
www.s3graphics.com
It recommends using the Wins3id.exe utill, to find out the exact model of graphics adapter you have. Hopefully you have the 'Trio3D/1X-/2X (360,362,368)' type card as there is an XP driver available for this adapter.
Then visit:
ranger.s3graphics.com
To get your drivers.
After installing the drivers try running dxdiag to test the drivers.
Good luck

187608 2003-10-29 11:04:00 Those cards are usually only Two megs, so I dont think you'll get much joy from them, it could be time to look at a cheap upgrade perhaps?

There are 32Meg PCI Graphics cards that go for around $60-70 if you look in the right place.. I put a friend onto one about two weeks back :-)

187609 2003-10-30 08:30:00 Thanks for the help guys.

I ran WinS3ID.exe and it told me I had a Trio3D (365/366) chip which doesn't have an XP adapter.

Oh well, it looks like an upgrade may be in order.

Thanks again
