The failure of Carrich really points to how it was run. Its no good pointing out that downturn in foreign students for 1 year caused a drop in revenue so big that it forced closure of Carrich.

Among many things Carrich should have held back on those nice "Free PC " advertising and instead get its financial accounts solid before trying to expand so quickly!

187623 2003-10-30 22:01:00 While it's true that mis management would have also definately played a major part in its downfall, there is also another governmental reason that would have contributed as well. Not only do PTE's suffer from the student loan Cap of $7,500 but they also have to have an 80% pass for students who pass the course and they must also ensure that students find work or go onto another course again the level is set I think around the 80% level. If students who finish and pass the course fail to find work or go on another course in numbers that don't pass the minimum 80% then the PTE will lose some of it's government funding as well.

This is Not the case with Uni or polytechs who can charge whatever they like for their courses and don't give a damn whether you get a job at the end of it or not as they don't lose thier funding if their students don't go on to other things.

Yes there are a lot of PTE's and yes there needs to be so major development in ensuring that they offer good quality services and course but but least they should be allowed to actually succeed, but many are only just scraping by.
