2003-10-29 23:46:00 | Hi, With Windows 2000 already installed as my main O.S, can I install XP in also? Or is it safe , to Install XP first then reinstall Windows 2000 after once I have XP installed? Any comments... Thanks

If you only have 1 partition you will have to start from scratch (or use a tool that allows you to format a partition that contains data...maybe partition magic). If you start from scratch you need to install Windows 2000 first and then XP. Make sure you partition your disc before installing the OS using Fdisk or similar. Hope this helps. B. |

2003-10-30 00:06:00 | I am dual booting 2k and XP and it works fine. I had 2k first and just installed XP to C:\Windows (not C:\WINNT2) and now it comes up with the M$ bootloader on bootup. Then you just go to XP, edit the boot.ini file (winkey+pause - Advnced Tab) so Win2k starts by default. The only problems I had was that after installing XP I lost my Grub bootloader for Linux (:o), and I didn't bother making my 2k programs usable on XP but I think there is a way if someone of higher knowledge could post. Then again I don't seriously use XP. I just f*** around with winstyles and logons to make it look like MAC.:D

2003-10-30 01:37:00 | Thanks guys, Just a curious question, I once recieved this message, but I couldnt recollect wether it was because I had installed Windows 2000 before XP? Do you know what this message is about or how about to come about this problem? Mesage: Windows 2000 could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:\windows\system32\config\systemd However, if you don't recieve this message if 2000 already exists, then my guess should be that everything is fine . . . . I can put XP on D partition aye? Cya

2003-10-30 01:53:00 | There is a FAQ on this forum (FAQ #2 Multi-booting a Windows System) on installing multiple operating systems on a computer . Probably won't help with the error message but could provide other helpful information . Find the link top right of this page . Note that the FAQ may take a little while to load but it will open eventually .
