188354 2003-11-01 05:59:00 This is one place you can download the patch (www.mjisystems.com).

Or, you can get it from the MS Windows95 downloads page
here (www.microsoft.com)

Although it is called the AMD patch, it actually applies to the software correcting a timing loop, and it works with Intel too.

188355 2003-11-01 06:30:00 i have a 700mhz celeron... how would i overclock that i see some jumpers in my mobo ill tweak with those later but i cant see anything to do with that in my BIOS - J javoyle (2120)
188356 2003-11-01 06:58:00 I hope you don't mind having a fried CPU. It can be done but research very carefully before you do it.

Thinking about buying a new computer are you?

188357 2003-11-01 07:07:00 Elephant is quite correct. Overclocking is just a pastime hobby of little real value, any speed gain is outweighed by stressing circuitry not "certified" for the higher frequency, and life will be shortened, sometimes to a few seconds :D

It is much more gainful to install higher speed cpus, or video cards, or more ram.

188358 2003-11-01 07:11:00 Well I managed to run Win95 on an AMD K500 (500 Mhz)

I feel tempted to try it on my AMD2800+ but don't feel I want to do that right now.

WinXP and Mandrake run on it. Maybe I'll get another removable hard disk tray and try.

Why do you want Win95 on your system?

If you have Win98SE and Linux (which you have problems with) why are you asking for MORE problems?

188359 2003-11-01 07:33:00 Thanks Terrey for that. I tried it briefly for about a 10% increase in speed.

I can't type that fast. :-)

Being as I have no idea what motherboard and BIOS this person has I can't tell Him/Her to change FSB/ Core voltage/ Jumpers with any real expectation the computer will boot. Some Motherboards have a dual BIOS. Soltek ( Red Storm overclocking) makes life easier for trying it.

Personally, I won't try overclocking again unless I have the money for a new M/B, CPU and RAM. At the moment I run a AMD2800+ and for the money I'm not looking to go to the AMD3200+

I could overclock this system but why bother?

As you say..... It's a hobby.... Some people have the T.A.B, Booze, Golf, Chess, Computers, Cars etc as a hobby. I only have three of these hobbies.

188360 2003-11-01 08:49:00 The real joy comes when you have to take the heatsink off and start connecting L1 bridges with a pencil to unlock the cpu so you can overclock it. I did that a few weeks ago, and I can tell you I learned a fair bit about assembling cpus into the motherboard and applying thermal paste :)

Then once I'd successfully unlocked it, there was no point as the MB's bios had no cpu multiplier section for me to change it.

188361 2003-11-01 08:56:00 Nah, my Dad bought new computers a while ago. He just gave me the old one to muck around on, so i am out for the learning.

First thing was linux. I wouldnt ahve a clue how to use it properly yet, I still cant get sound.

I thought i would try overclocking.

I might just buy a new cpu instead.

Not really for the speed, just the learning.

I gotta get an antistatic wrist thing though.

188362 2003-11-01 10:01:00 That's Ok then.... Just learning. Good idea.

Experiment if you will.

When you fry something just ask your Dad for another.

188363 2003-11-01 20:19:00 Yea, like I said to you on MSN yesterday.... it is a hobby which you dont want to be doing for a long time.. or else ]:)

I was just lucky to get a 60% increase, but again 75Mhz to 120Mhz isnt that much. You cant even feel it. After all, chipmakers are increasing in 200Mhz today! And still... not much people can feel the difference.. so why bother?

As I say, do it only if you want to know how.... but dont go too far!
