188184 2003-11-01 03:41:00 OK, where would I find this applications data folder please? XP. And the reason I changed is I just wanted something that had different features that I liked, like the tab browsing, and I had read of good things on Firebird on this forum after Opera kept playing up for me. You will find this under C:\Documents and Settings\your_name\Application Data.

In this same directory you will also see a folder called Phoenix which is assoicated with Firebird. If you wanted to backup your Firebird bookmarks, you can find them under Phoenix\Profiles\default (or your name)\[random 8 letters].slt\bookmarks.html. Making a copy of them before deleting a profile is quite easy and that way you can reinstate them when reinstalling the browser (if you decide to do that).

Bit of a shame your Firebird experience didn't go well - it is a fabulous browser :)

188186 2003-11-01 11:31:00 I am using Firebird right now to make this post. It is not as fast as IE6 on my computer anyway. Here is an annoying bug. Go to Bookmarks/Imported IE Favorites/Right click on any part of the favorites window, now left click on the main window. Go back to Imported IE favorites and they won't be there anymore. You have to restart the browser. The last time I tried it about a year ago it had the same fault. Opera has a similar fault as well as I remember.

188187 2003-11-01 11:41:00 With the exception of the lack of tabbed browsing IE6 is supurb. Paired with a popup and ad blocking proxy I can't really see any reason to change. I certainly don't have any problems with reliability, I don't recall it crashing on me more than about twice in 2 years. BIFF (1)

188189 2003-11-01 18:19:00 Yeah I had the same problem with the disapearing favorites as zqwerty, very annoying when that happens. And I can't find the application data folder where its sposed to be. Danger (287)
188190 2003-11-01 20:39:00 Interesting, I never noticed that bug before . But then I edited all my IE bookmarks into the main bookmarks folder way back when I first changed over so virtually never use the "IE Favorites" .

A fairly minor bug I would have thought and very simple to work around . An ironic complaint given that if memory serves me correctly IE won't import bookmarks from other browsers . I may be wrong about that with IE6 though, It's been a year since I used it, but 5 . 5 certainly didn't .

Have you considered filing a bug report? They won't be able to fix the bug if they don't know it exists. You can file a bug report at http://bugzilla.mozilla.org (You'll need to sign up for a bugzilla account)

188192 2003-11-01 22:57:00 Browsing the net through my favorites folders built up over a number of years is the most important part of my internet experience. I am wanting to concentrate on the content of the sites I am visiting and I want the browser to obey my every command transparently without having to deal with annoying little bugs. That favorites bug is a huge fault in my opinion and shows that Firebird has not been properly tested. If I was the designer of the browser I would be ashamed of myself. I am very experienced in testing and using electronic devices and over the years I seem to expect more than these prototype browsers can supply. IE6 with all its faults is a mature browser with heaps of features that are on hand and even though I try other ones I only last a short time before switching back to IE. Netscape 7.1 looks tempting but I have not used it for long enough to see if it has any bugs. zqwerty (97)
188193 2003-11-01 23:08:00 Add the Google tool bar and you get the best browser available with a good popup killer to boot. Plus blogging at your fingertips. Sorry but there is no way any of the lightweight new browsers can compare. zqwerty (97)
