188243 2003-10-31 20:35:00 In NZ? Have seen a few on the web,but not sure if they're available here.Thought I might go that way instead of installing a soundcard,to get a decent copy off of records (LP's).
Thanks.

188244 2003-10-31 23:25:00 USB is data & power only. You will not get audio thru it, without an expensive A to D converter built into the pre-amp. Sound card is the best - and I think - the only way.

188245 2003-10-31 23:42:00 That's not entirely true Peter. It's quite common to find USB audio devices with built-in A/D conversion.
Neil, you might like to check out this one:

CleanPlus 4.0 includes a good quality USB pre-amp and software for removing pops and other record-noise for around $200.

188247 2003-11-01 01:15:00 Ah yes, there is an increasing range of things which use the USB "standard"interface. Maybe one day, you will be able to plug in a lot of USB devices and they will all work. :D Graham L (2)
188248 2003-11-01 02:11:00 Thanks guys.I know they're around, just wondered where to find one.Had a look through Dick Smith's stuff, and tried to find a web-site of Harvey Normans, but no good. The point is,a good USB phono setup saves me having to install a good soundcard. And I'd be able to use it later on this old thing if I get a new pc! Neil McC (178)
