188719 2003-11-02 10:18:00 its not as bad as it sounds but every time i manually open and check or run AVG, it always has resident shield non or not functional.....

so have to click it and restart or whatever it is .....(cant remember what it says then).
and this is beginning to bug me....
and i was wondering if this is a problem caused by something else or just a beetle thing.

apart from that i update avg regularly, and check it (runs auto most of the time) manually also when the whim takes me.

but i was hoping for some words of wisdom to say why it switches this part of the prog off.

any ideas greatly appreciated.

188720 2003-11-02 10:33:00 i assume you have activated the shield?

its possible you've had a virus thats tried to disable it or somethings broken. uninstall it then reinstall. you might want to try an online scanner just in case.

yes each and every time i open the AVG prog for that day,
it seems to be non functional,
when i have had a shut down and puter is off for the hour/day etc.

and i run avg regularly, and it has not found anything as of yet.
will try the uninstall thing at some stage then,

and by online scanner could you suggest anything? i dont know much about these sort of progs.

188722 2003-11-02 11:12:00 I think its possible to disable resident sheild check in the options area of avg it maybe disabled. By clicking on the resident sheild button you are enabling resident sheild only for the that session your pc is being used. beama (111)

You can have an online virus scan performed here (http://housecall.trendmicro.com/).

188726 2003-11-03 05:15:00 ps.
this has been doing it for ages, even before Metla has been helping with my puter probs, and it has not changed since doing instructions from Metla either.

but note to metla if reading this, still going ok...... and no major probs shwon up yet, may need to do a little photo or homework for a good test... :D

188727 2003-11-03 19:16:00 It is possible to turn off resident sheild (just checked) to check/turn back on, right click on AVG icon down by you computer clock, select " run avg control center" select "resident sheild" tab ensure that the first three boxes in "check viruses" area are selected (have tick in them) beama (111)
